Almost seven months after launching its bus services in India, German travel tech company FlixBus has now ventured into the southern part of India with the launch of 14 new buses on six new routes around Bengaluru, covering 33 cities like Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Coimbatore.
Karnataka’s minister of commerce & industries MB Patil flagged FlexiBus’ bus services in South India on Tuesday (September 3) in Bengaluru.
“With operations in 40+ countries, they are set to enhance public transport options and connectivity. Proud to flag off these buses, driving sustainable and efficient travel across the region,” the minister said in a post on X.
In a post on LinkedIn, FlixBus said that with the launch, its presence in India has expanded to 101 cities. During the launch, FlixBus announced a promotional fare of INR 99.
“This offer is exclusively available for the new routes launched around Bengaluru, with the booking period running from September 3 to September 15 and the departure period spanning from September 10 to October 6,” it reportedly said in a statement.
Founded in 2011, FlixBus offers low-cost intercity bus services in more than 40 countries in Europe, North America, South America and Asia.
The travel tech company forayed into India in February this year. It launched its operations in the country with Delhi as its hub and forged partnerships with five local bus companies based in the city. It roped in ex-Uber product manager Surya Khurana to helm its India operations as a managing director.
After its first phase of expansion, where it was going to connect 46 Indian cities, including Ayodhya, Lucknow, Dehradun, Manali, and Jodhpur, it had announced plans to expand to the southern region of the country.
In its South India adventure, FlixBus will look to collaborate with local bus operators to enhance its business operations, it said in the statement.
Earlier in July, FlixBus also partnered with Paytm to allow users to book bus tickets directly from the Paytm app.
