Its net loss declined 19.6% to INR 651.1Cr in FY25 from INR 810.3 Cr in the previous fiscal year on the back of a jump in its top line

If not for discounts, Cleatrip’s revenue would have been INR 777.3 Cr

Flipkart-owned online travel aggregator (OTA) startup Cleartrip’s net loss declined 20% to INR 651.1 Cr in the financial year 2024-25 (FY25) from INR 810.3 Cr loss incurred in the previous fiscal year.

Cleartrip’s operating revenue surged 70% to INR 169.2 Cr during the year under review from INR 99.7 Cr in FY24. Including an other income of INR 65.3 Cr, Cleartrip’s total income for the fiscal year stood at INR 234.6 Cr.

The uptick came on the back of the hefty discounts given by the OTA to attract more customers. In FY25, Cleartrip gave INR 608.2 Cr worth of discounts as against INR 524.9 Cr in the previous fiscal.

If not for discounts, the startup’s revenue would have been INR 777.3 Cr. In this, Cleartrip earned INR 516.4 Cr from service charges in FY25 and INR 248.3 Cr from commissions and incentives.

Founded by Hrush Bhatt, Matthew Spacie and Stuart Crighton in 2006, Cleartrip allows users to book various travel services like flights, hotels, trains, buses, and local activities through its website and mobile app. It was acquired by ecommerce giant Flipkart in 2021.

Cleartrip has seen multiple leadership exits in recent times. Most prominently, CEO Ayyappan Rajagopal resigned in August 2024 to set up his own quick commerce startup FirstClub.

Besides, CFO Aditya Agarwal also stepped down from his role in April last year due to personal reasons. In September, its chief business officer (CBO) Prahlad Krishnamurthi also quit to join Bizongo’s procurement platform NextBuy as its CEO.

Zooming Into Cleartrip’s Expenses

During the fiscal under review, the OTA startup managed to curb its spending by 10.5% to INR 885.8 Cr from INR 990.7 Cr in the previous fiscal.

On a unit economics basis, the company spent over INR 5 to earn every rupee from operations in FY25. However, this was an improvement from the INR 10 it spent to earn every rupee from operations in FY24.

Ad Spends: The OTA reduced its advertising and promotional expenses by 20% during the year under review to INR 102.1 Cr from INR 128.4 Cr in FY24.

Employee Benefit Expenses: Employee costs also decreased 40% to INR 239.4 Cr in the fiscal from INR 400.5 Cr in previous year.

Payment Gateway Charges: The company spent INR 78.6 Cr under this head in FY25, 13.2% lower from INR 90.6 Cr in FY24.
