Flipkart Forays Into After-Sale Services Segment

SUMMARY

Listed under the ‘Home Product Services’ tab on its app, the service will enable users to easily book repair, maintenance and installation requests

The service platform will cater to a range of devices including mobiles, home appliances, laptops, furniture and consumer electronics

The ecommerce major will deploy its service arm, Jeeves, to scale the offering

With an eye on scaling its offerings, ecommerce major Flipkart has now rolled out a gamut of post-sales services on its app.

Listed under the ‘Home Product Services’ tab on its app, the service will enable users to easily book repair, maintenance and installation requests. The ecommerce major will deploy its service arm, Jeeves, to scale the offering.

With the announcement, the Flipkart’s service vertical will now roll out its offerings for all home products, irrespective of where they were purchased from.

The service platform will cater to a range of devices, including mobiles, home appliances, laptops, furniture, consumer electronics, etc.

“We are conscious of the challenges customers face to avail reliable after sales services from unorganised and offline service providers and with the launch of Home Product Services on the Flipkart app, customers will now have access to convenient, reliable, and cost-effective after sales services backed by service guarantee for home products…” said Jeeves’ chief executive officer Nipun Sharma.

Jeeves was founded in 2007 and was later acquired by Flipkart in 2017 for an undisclosed amount

In a press statement, Flipkart said that it aims to serve customers in over 19,000 pin codes across India through doorstep as well as pick and drop services.

This comes at a time when the ecommerce platform has been looking to scale its offerings amid mounting losses. Flipkart Internet, which runs the startup’s marketplace arm, saw its standalone net loss widen to INR 4,361 Cr in the financial year 2021-22 (FY22) from INR 2,881.3 Cr in FY21.

While the company continues to post hefty losses, it is still one of the biggest names in the Indian startup ecosystem. With the competition expected to intensify in the overall customer-facing market in the months to come, it remains to be seen what other tricks Flipkart has up its sleeves.
