Vivek Mathur, partner and chief operating officer (COO) at Elevation Capital, has quit the venture capital firm after 14 years to focus on advisory and mentorship.

“I have transitioned from Elevation Capital, after an incredible 14 years. I am now focusing on advisory and mentorship, supporting an exciting cohort of founders across sectors like D2C, agri, agritech, climate and defence tech,” Mathur said while announcing his exit in a LinkedIn post.

“I’m looking forward to being a thought partner all the way from inception to IPO – whiteboarding, working on growth plans, identifying operating efficiencies and charting paths to profitability,” he added.

An industry veteran with over 30 years of experience, Mathur also held various leadership roles in companies such as Dell Technologies, Scope International and Standard Chartered Bank.

Through Elevation, Mathur has backed startups, including ACKO, FirstCry, Paytm, Tracxn and Xpressbees among others.

Elevation Capital provides seed and early-stage capital for emerging companies in India. It counts Swiggy, Meesho, ShareChat and Urban Company among its portfolio companies.

Mathur’s exit comes at a time when the VC firm has been strengthening its leadership roles.

Elevation Capital’s latest appointment was former Meta executive Krishna Mehra as partner to lead SaaS and AI investments for the fund, in December last year.

In October last year, the VC firm also promoted its principals Vaas Bhaskar and Chirag Chadha to the positions of partners and vice president Ashray Iyengar to principal.

Meanwhile, industry-wide investors are looking to strengthen their teams to tap the burgeoning Indian startup and technology ecosystem, where global private equity firm Investcorp roped in former Tech Mahindra executive Vivek Agarwal as senior operating partner for its India operations, only a day ago.

Prior to that, India-focused investment management firm Bay Capital Partners also appointed Delhivery’s Sandeep Barasia to its advisory board, in February.
