E-Gaming Industry Enforces ‘Code Of Ethics’ For Safe, Responsible Play

India’s gaming industry associations have come together to promote safe and responsible real money online gaming in the country.

The All India Gaming Federation (AIGF), the Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS) and the E-Gaming Federation (EGF) joined hands today (March 10) to enforce ‘Code of Ethics’ (CoE) to ensure responsible gaming and safety standards across the industry.

According to a joint statement by the federation bodies, the framework of the CoE includes measures such as “age-gating, adopting stringent KYC and enabling user-set spending limits & self-exclusion.”

The new framework will apply to all the members of the above three federations which offer real money online gaming or skill based real money gaming services in India. These members would include notable names such as Nazara, Games 24×7, My11Circle, RummyCircle, Head Digital Works among others.

“This Code of Ethics reinforces our commitment to fair play, compliance with Indian laws, and fostering a secure and responsible gaming environment. Through collaboration with other industry federations, we are setting new benchmarks for ethical gaming, strengthening the credibility of India’s online gaming sector, and building a sustainable, globally competitive ecosystem,” said Roland Landers, CEO at AIGF.

The statement further said that real money gaming platforms with a top line of more than INR 100 Cr will have to adopt the new codes within six months from the signing and the companies generating less than INR 100 Cr of annual revenue will have to adopt the codes within nine months from the date of signing.

Principles of  the Code of Ethics:

Responsible gaming practices: This talks about age gating, no operations in restricted states, and robust KYC mechanisms.

Player Protection: This revolves around safeguarding the data people and appropriate management of player funds.

Fair Gaming Practices: Ensuring integrity and fairness in gameplay.

Transparency: Providing clear and accurate information to players.

Support for Vulnerable Players: Tools and resources for identifying and assisting at-risk players.

Responsible Advertising: Ethical advertising and promotions.

Followed by this, the three federations will also sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) addressing concerns over illegal betting and gambling advertisements by foreign entities.

Last month the state government of Tamil Nadu notified new rules in the online gaming sector which banned the participation of minors below the age of 18 in real money gaming.
