Dream11 Parent Open-Sources Core Tech With HorizonOS For Startups, MSMEs

Dream Sports, the parent company of Dream11, has open-sourced the core technology that powered its real-time platform.

Open-source tech stack HorizonOS is aimed at India’s developer community, especially startups and MSMEs in ecommerce, fintech and health-tech. It sits under Horizon, the new SaaS business unit of Dream Sports.

HorizonOS claims to offer a host of functionalities – from tools to help developers build, test and deploy faster, through core building blocks for application development to systems and platforms that allow those applications to run and be managed at scale.

With this move, the company said that it has open-sourced the infrastructure Dream11 built over the past decade to manage 16 Mn concurrent users and 1 Lakh transactions per second.

“We are making these building blocks available for individual developers, startups and MSMEs to use, so they can focus on solving for their core product proposition,” Horizon CEO Amit Garde said.

Dream11 had earlier contributed to open-source projects such as ReactNative, Kong and Vert.X. The company claimed HorizonOS extends that involvement with a more structured open-source release.

HorizonOS will debut at MumbaiHacks 2025, the world’s largest Agentic AI hackathon, scheduled for November 28 and 29. Thousands of developers will get hands-on experience with its APIs, toolkits, and modules, enabling them to test scalable applications.

The development comes in the backdrop of India’s $12 Bn real money gaming (RMG) industry being dismantled overnight following a government ban on several online gaming formats.

The hardest hit was Dream11, the country’s most prominent RMG startup, valued at $8 Bn. Along with rivals like MPL and WinZo and others, Dream11 was forced to shut down its fantasy sports app immediately.

In the aftermath of the ban, the company attempted to shift focus to its broader sports tech ecosystem, including its sports streaming and fan engagement platform Fancode. It has also diversified into the investment tech space with the launch of Dream Money.
