D2C Pet Care Startup Supertails In Talks To Acquire Blue 7 Vets: Report

SUMMARY

Blue 7 Vets’ acquisition will help Supertails to enter the Mumbai pet care market and boost its offline healthcare services

According to a Mint report, the size of the deal could not be ascertained

The Bengaluru-based startup raised $15 Mn last year to expand its offline services such as clinics and pet pharmacies

Bengaluru-based pet care startup Supertails is reportedly in talks to buy multispeciality veterinary clinic Blue 7 Vets as part of its effort to expand its offline services.

“Supertails is executing a ‘build and buyout’ strategy where it is evaluating several assets, including Blue 7, to support its offline clinic expansion while also setting up its own centres,” Mint reported, citing sources close to the matter.

The report further said that the size of the deal could not be ascertained as the acquisition process is still underway and would close in a couple of months.

Inc42 has reached out to Supertails and Blue 7 Vets for comments on the development. The story will be updated based on the responses.

This comes almost a year after Supertails raised $15 Mn in a Series B round led by RPSG Capital Ventures and other existing investors. At the time, the startup said that it would use the fresh funds to enter the offline business channels–building an Omnichannel experience for consumers.

Founded in 2021 by Varun Sadana, Aman Tekriwal, and Vineet Khanna, Supertails is a D2C pet care startup which sells various utilities and accessories for pets such as toys, food and other accessories. It also provides online veterinary consultations, training services and has an offline pet clinic and pharmacy in Bengaluru.

It claims to have served more than 1.5 lakh pet owners and is backed by the likes of Fireside Ventures, Saama Capital, DSG, Sauce VC, bollywood actress Deepika Padukone and CRED’s Kunal Shah. The startup competes with brands like Heads Up For Tails, Drool and Wiggles.

On the other hand, founded in 2005 by Vikram Dave and Ashlesha Dave, Blue 7 Vets is a Mumbai-based multispeciality veterinary clinic which specialises in surgeries and critical care for pets.

The Mumbai-based venture operates more than 10 clinic centres in Mumbai and is backed by a team of experienced veterinary experts.

According to a report, the pet care industry in India is expected to grow at a CAGR of 18-20% and will become a $7 Bn opportunity  by the end of the financial year ending March 2028.
