CP Gurnani’s AlonOS Signs MoU To Build AI Solutions For Indonesia

SUMMARY

AlonOS will leverage Chinese AI company DeepSeek's open-source LLMs to develop use cases tailored for the country

The MoU is part of a larger G2G collaboration between India and Indonesia under the AI3 (AI for Indonesia and India) initiative

As part of the collaboration, AIonOS will leverage AI to build tools, catering to sectors such as tourism, knowledge economy, and sustainable agriculture

Former Tech Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani’s startup, AlonOS, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indonesian telecom giant Indosat to build a range of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for the Southeast Asian country.

“… By leveraging Indosat’s local expertise with AIonOS’s AI innovations, this initiative aims to empower Indonesians with AI skills, boost growth in key sectors like tourism and sustainable agriculture, and strengthen Indonesia’s human capital to drive its digital transformation. As an enabler and accelerator of progress, this positions India to build an enterprise-scale AI platform and unlock industry-wide adoption globally,” said AlonOS cofounder and CEO Gurnani.

As per NDTV Profit, AlonOS will leverage Chinese AI company DeepSeek’s open-source large language models (LLMs) to develop use cases tailored for the country. The GenAI startup will also set up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Jakarta in partnership with DeepSeek.

On concerns about partnering with a Chinese company, Gurnani reportedly said, “There are no concerns with respect to DeepSeek being Chinese. We will work within the boundaries of regulations… Indonesia has a right to choose AIonOS. In India, we work with OpenAI, Meta and Google. Similarly, in Indonesia, we’ll be working with DeepSeek”.

The MoU is part of a larger government-to-government (G2G) collaboration between India and Indonesia and is the first large-scale AI-focussed partnership between the two nations. The partnership has been envisaged under AI3 (AI for Indonesia and India) and will be “powered” by Indosat and AIonOS.

Under the pact, AIonOS will leverage the emerging technology to build tools, catering to sectors such as tourism, knowledge economy, and sustainable agriculture. In a statement, AlonOS also said that it will collaborate with educational institutions in Indonesia and India to develop an AI-enabled workforce.

It will also deploy AI to build tools that can increase agricultural productivity and resilience.

This comes nearly a year after the former Tech Mahindra boss joined hands with the group managing director of airline IndiGo’s parent firm InterGlobe Enterprises, Rahul Bhatia, to float AlonOS. It claims to offer AI-powered SaaS solutions to help businesses in the travel, transportation, logistics and hospitality sectors increase their revenue.

Notably, InterGlobe Enterprises is said to own a majority stake in Singapore-headquartered AIonOS, which also has an office in Delhi-NCR.

As per Inc42, Indian GenAI ecosystem is projected to become a $17 Bn market opportunity by 2030.
