Cloudflare Outage Disrupts Trading On Groww, Zerodha, Angel One

Several Indian broking platforms, including Zerodha, Angel One, Groww and Upstox, went offline during the trading hours today, as internet services company Cloudflare suffered yet another outage.

Acknowledging the issue, Zerodha advised users to use its trading app Kite’s WhatsApp backup to manage trades.

“Due to a cross-platform downtime on Cloudflare, Kite is currently unavailable. Please use the Kite WhatsApp backup to manage your trades while we investigate,” the company said in a post on X. 

Meanwhile Groww said that the platform is experiencing technical issues due to a global outage at Cloudflare. “This is impacting multiple apps and services worldwide. We are monitoring the situation closely and will update you the moment services are restored. Thank you for your patience,” the company said in a statement.

Cloudflare later said on its official status page that all services were back online and said that the outage was caused due to an issue affecting the dashboard and related APIs. The outage lasted around 12 minutes.

This comes weeks after Cloudflare suffered an outage last month which took down several global platforms, including X, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Spotify and PayPal. 

Notably, in 2022, a Cloudflare outage had affected the likes of Discord, AWS, Zerodha, Airtel, Shopify, among others. 

Founded in 2009, Cloudflare is a global web infrastructure company that sits between a website and its users to ensure the site loads quickly, stays online, and remains protected from cyberattacks.

One major role of Cloudflare is to improve performance. It caches (stores) parts of a website on its global servers so users can access data from a location closest to them, reducing load times and reducing pressure on the original server. 

Many high-traffic platforms rely on Cloudflare to handle large volumes of users efficiently. However, an outage in Cloudflare’s network causes widespread disruption, as seen twice over the past month.
