It will initially have a capacity of 80 MW, which will later expand to 150 MW along with a potential investment of INR 2000 Cr

Amid India’s digitisation era, Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai has laid the foundation of the country’s first AI-based data centre park.

On May 3 (Saturday), CM Sai laid the foundation stone for the data centre park in sector 22 of Nava Raipur, said the government in a statement.

The data centre will be developed in an area of 13.5 acres, out of which 2.5 hectares will be dedicated as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), the statement added. This project, which is being operated by RackBank DataCenters Pvt. Ltd, will offer GPU-based high-end computing, live data streaming, AI processing and data analytics facilities.

The data centre park will initially have a capacity of 80 MW, which will later expand to 150 MW.

Besides, it will also provide services in areas including AI, health tech, defence, fintech and data analytics. Furthermore, the government said that this data centre is likely to attract an investment of INR 2000 Cr in the future.

“The park will have world-class facilities such as GPU-based high-end computing infrastructure, recording, live data streaming, and AI processing,” the state government said.

The project is also likely to generate more than 500 direct and 1500 indirect jobs.

The development comes at a time when Chhattisgarh is taking technological measures to streamline state’s operations. For instance, Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district recently adopted blockchain technology to avoid tampering of land records and increase accessibility.

The In-House Data Centre Push

With India’s vision to become a global superpower in AI, several states are coming forward to contribute and take various initiatives. Besides, many global giants are also betting on India’s AI potential

For instance, Japanese IT business service giant NTT DATA and AI cloud company Neysa Networks recently inked a pact with the Telangana government to set up an INR 10,500 Cr AI data centre cluster in Hyderabad.

Earlier this year, the American investment giant Blackstone and its joint venture partner Panchshil Realty inked an agreement with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to invest $3 Bn (around INR 26,000 Cr) to develop data centres in the state.

As per the Economic Survey 2024-25, India’s data centre market is projected to touch $11.6 Bn by 2032, at a CAGR of 10.98% from $4.5 Bn in 2023.
