[Update] BYTES Bags Grant From Nikhil Kamath’s WTFund

SUMMARY

BYTES, an AI-powered safety system provider for two-wheelers, has secured a grant from Nikhil Kamath’s WTFund

The startup’s ADAS predicts and identifies high-risk scenarios in real time, aiming to reduce fatalities, as two-wheelers contribute to 60% of global road accidents

BYTES is launching pilot programmes with leading two-wheeler OEMs and preparing to close its pre-seed funding round to scale its accident prediction system

Bengaluru-based BYTES, an AI-powered safety system provider for two wheelers, has secured a non-dilutive grant of INR 20 Lakh from Nikhil Kamath’s WTFund. The startup is among those selected for the fund’s second cohort.

Founded in August 2024 by Prakhar Agrawal and Aayush Kumar, BYTES’ AI-driven Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is designed to prevent accidents by predicting and identifying high-risk scenarios in real time.

Two wheelers make up 60% of more than 50 Mn road accidents the world suffers every year. Human error contributes to 90% of these crashes, and the absence of robust safety features increases the risk of fatality by 40%, the startup said in a statement.

BYTES aims to reduce fatalities and collisions by providing riders with real-time assistance to avoid dangerous situations.

“AI and vision-based intelligence will play a crucial role in ensuring that safety isn’t an afterthought but an integral part of riding,” the statement quoted cofounder and chief executive Agrawal as saying.

BYTES is also launching pilot programmes with top two-wheeler OEMs to integrate its safety system into real-world applications. With a pre-seed funding round set to close soon, the startup claims to be on track to scale its technology to upgrade the accident prediction system.

This development comes as automotive safety technology, traditionally focused on four-wheelers, expands to two-wheelers. While major motorcycle manufacturers have begun basic safety features like anti-locking breaking systems, advanced AI-powered safety systems remain largely untapped in this segment.

It is pertinent to note that India has one of the highest death rates in the world due to road accidents. As per the road ministry’s data, over 4.6 Lakh road accidents took place in India in 2022, resulting in over 1.68 Lakh people losing their lives.

As a result, a number of startups have come up over the last few years to solve this problem. For instance, Netradyne analyses driver behaviour in real-time to reduce errors and prevent road accidents. Last month, the startup became the first unicorn of 2025 in the Indian startup ecosystem.

BYTES is among the nine startups selected as part of the second cohort of WTFund. The fund targets young Indian founders under the age of 25 years and claims to provide participating startups with “no-strings attached’ grants, access to insights, mentorship and strategic partnership opportunities, and sales and marketing support.
