Now, Blinkit Rolls Out 10-Minute Ambulance Service

SUMMARY

Blinkit has launched the ambulance service starting from Gurugram with five vehicles, CEO Albinder Dhindsa said

The ambulances are equipped with life-saving equipment, including oxygen cylinders, AEDs, stretcher, monitor, suction machine, and essential emergency medicines and injections

The CEO said the company is not targeting profit with the new launch and will operate this service at an affordable cost for customers

Zomato’s quick commerce arm Blinkit has now launched a 10-minute ambulance service.

Blinkit cofounder and CEO Albinder Dhindsa, in a post on X, said, “We are taking our first step towards solving the problem of providing quick and reliable ambulance service in our cities.”

The ambulance service is starting from Gurugram on Thursday (January 2) with five vehicles, and will be expanded to more areas soon, he added.

Dhindsa said that the users will “start seeing an option to book a Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance” on the app.

He said that the ambulances are equipped with essential life-saving equipment, including oxygen cylinders, AED (Automated External Defibrillator), stretcher, monitor, suction machine, and essential emergency medicines and injections. Besides, each ambulance has a paramedic, an assistant, and a trained driver.

Profit is not a goal here. We will operate this service at an affordable cost for customers and invest in really solving this critical problem for the long term,” the CEO said.

Dhindsa also said that the company is carefully working on the service to expand it in the major cities within the next two years.

Blinkit has been gradually expanding its services to new cities and introducing new features over the last year. However, the new launch is not much about business but more about solving this “critical problem for the long term”, as per Dhindsa.

Last month, Blinkit launched a new app, Bistro, to enter the quick food delivery segment. It has also launched large order fleets and ‘Blinkit Seller Hub’, which allows sellers to list themselves on the platform.

Earlier this week, it launched its services in Jammu and rolled out a feature to allow users to delete their order history.

On the financial front, Blinkit reported INR 1,156 Cr revenue in the second quarter of the financial year 2024-25 (FY25), which was more than double of INR 505 Cr posted in the year-ago quarter.

The company also narrowed its adjusted EBITDA loss to INR 8 Cr in the reported quarter from a loss of INR 125 Cr in Q2 FY24.
