Targeting the used commercial vehicles segment, Ashok Leyland has announced the launch of its online marketplace, Re-AL.

The digital platform will allow customers to sell used commercial vehicles in exchange for new Ashok Leyland trucks and buses. The marketplace will also enable customers to list their vehicles on the platform and sell them.

With this new platform, Ashok Leyland aims to increase transparency in the ‘disorganised’ used vehicle ecosystem and enhance the overall customer experience. The company also plans to leverage its industry expertise and partnerships to scale up its digital transformation journey.

“The Used Commercial Vehicle industry is ripe for disruption. Leveraging our digital platforms, there are many opportunities for us to provide customer-centric solutions. This used vehicle e-marketplace solution marks a significant milestone in our digital transformation journey, and this will help us add significant value in the customer life cycle,” said Ashok Leyland’s managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) Shenu Agarwal.

Chiming in, the president of Ashok Leyland’s medium and heavy-duty trucks vertical, Sanjeev Kumar, said, “… We believe this e-marketplace will help in enhancing the overall customer experience in exchanging their old vehicles for brand new Ashok Leyland trucks and buses by bringing a level of ease, transparency into the process and thereby building trust.”

In a statement, the commercial vehicle maker said that the online marketplace will allow users to access a variety of features, including validated documents and evaluation reports as well as verified images of the products.

Based out of Chennai, Ashok Leyland is the flagship company of the Hinduja Group and is one of the biggest commercial vehicle manufacturers in the country.

The company’s digital foray comes amid growing competition from new-age tech companies such as CarDekho and Droom which have launched specific subsidiaries catering to the trucks and buses markets. Other platforms such as OLX, Eicher and IndiaMART and TrucksBuses also offer digital marketplaces that sell used trucks and buses.

With the online platform, Ashok Leyland aims to leverage its resource base to directly offer its products to customers and reach out directly to the D2C clientele.

As per a report, more than 5.68 Lakh commercial vehicles were sold in the country in the fiscal year 2020-21, with the number projected to grow further on the back of growing infrastructure projects and increasing demand.
