Apple India’s iPhone Suppliers Cross 20% Domestic Value Addition: Report

SUMMARY

The domestic value addition assumes significance as Apple exported 76% more iPhones worth INR 1.50 Lakh Cr from India in FY25

Apple’s contract manufacturers include Foxconn, Tata Electronics, Dixon, Pegatron and Wistron (acquired by Tata Electronics), among others

This comes days after reports surfaced that Foxconn exported iPhones worth $3.2 Bn from India to the US, compared to a 2024 average of 50.3%

Apple’s iPhone suppliers in India have reportedly crossed the 20% domestic value addition (DVA) mark across variants.

Apple’s contract manufacturers include Foxconn, Tata Electronics, Dixon, Pegatron and Wistron (acquired by Tata Electronics), among others.

A Business Standard report, citing official government documents, said that the domestic value addition assumes significance as Apple exported 76% more iPhones worth INR 1.50 Lakh Cr (free on board value) from India in FY25, compared to a year ago.

The Cupertino-based company has also been in discussions with Murugappa Group and Titan to source iPhone’s camera modules, while it was also in talks with Dixon to extend the iPhone assembly line further.

This also comes days after reports surfaced that Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn exported iPhones worth $3.2 Bn from India, with an average of 97% gadgets shipped to the US, compared to a 2024 average of 50.3%.

Nearly two months ago, Foxconn’s $2.6 Bn under-construction plant on the outskirts of Bengaluru commenced initial operations with one assembly line, where it manufactures iPhone 16 and iPhone 16e models and the factory has the capacity of producing around 300-500 units per hour.

The Foxconn plant is expected to employ 50,000 people at full capacity. The construction of the unit is expected to be fully completed by December 2027.

Additionally, a new Tata Electronics plant in Tamil Nadu’s Hosur also started operations in April, to make older iPhone models on one assembly line.

Meanwhile, Apple has partnered with Tata Group to handle iPhone and MacBook repairs in India earlier this month, signifying India’s growing importance in the tech giant’s global strategy.

Reports then said, Tata would take over after-sales repair operations from Wistron’s Indian subsidiary, ICT Service Management Solutions.

As of 2024, Apple surpassed INR 1 lakh Cr mark in iPhone exports from India, with total shipments reaching a record $12.8 Bn (around INR 1.08 Lakh Cr), representing a 42% increase from the previous year.
