Ecommerce giant Amazon India has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ARGA, an initiative by the Uttar Pradesh government, to back women entrepreneurs at Gonda district by helping them leverage ecommerce to grow their businesses.

As part of the MoU, Amazon will support women-led businesses under Brand ARGA through its Saheli programme, offering training in digital marketing, performance marketing, product listing optimisation, and advertising strategies.

For context, the Saheli programme is an Amazon initiative designed to empower women entrepreneurs in India by providing them with access to the Amazon marketplace. It offers training, marketing support, and logistical assistance to help women-led businesses grow online.

Additionally, women entrepreneurs from the region will gain access to data-driven insights and metrics, helping them better understand customer preferences and market opportunities, ultimately enhancing their business growth.

The partnership was formally launched during the World Wetlands Day celebration at the Parvati Arga Bird Sanctuary in Gonda.

The development comes at a time when India’s startup ecosystem is witnessing a remarkable transformation, with women playing an increasingly pivotal role in entrepreneurship.

Of the 1.57 Lakh+ startups recognised under the Startup India initiative, nearly half are led or co-led by women.

Notably, 2024 was a year for women-led startups in India, with funding for these ventures seeing a significant surge. In the first half of the year alone, women-led startups secured over $523 Mn across 75 deals, marking an 81% year-on-year increase.

According to Inc42’s Indian Startup Funding Report 2024, by the end of the year, total funding for women-led startups had surpassed $930 Mn across 136 deals—a 93.75% jump from the $480 Mn raised through 118 deals in 2023. This surge signals growing investor confidence and the expanding impact of women entrepreneurs in India’s dynamic startup ecosystem.
