Ecommerce major Amazon is looking to launch its quick commerce services in India in the first quarter of next year.
As per ET’s report, the company has been actively developing its quick commerce strategy, assigning the responsibility to a senior executive amid leadership rejig.
This comes as the company plans to foray into the rapidly growing quick commerce market, which its rival Flipkart recently entered with its ‘Minutes’ service.
Karan Taurani, analyst from Elara Securities told Inc42 that Amazon is set to introduce its quick commerce service in India by the first quarter of next year with Nishant Sardana at the helm.
This strategic move of quick ecommerce expansion is looking to execute deliveries in a timeline of 20-30 minutes, Taurani added.
Multiple reports revealed that the ecommerce giant is also in negotiations to acquire a stake in Swiggy’s Instamart, enhancing its competitive edge as the ecommerce sector grows, notably with quick commerce sales increasing by 230% between 2021 and 2023.
Taurani said that these launches may have some negative impact on Blinkit and not a large one, as quick commerce is gaining significant traction at the cost of ecommerce.
Quick commerce may account for 40-50% of ecommerce, in some categories, over the next three years as per our checks, and it currently accounts for 10-15% of the total ecommerce segment, the brokerage also said.
Over a month ago, Amazon India director and head of Prime Abhinav Agarwal told Inc42 that Prime membership plan now offers customers same-day deliveries on 1 Mn products, including toys, electronics, and home entertainment categories.
Back then, Agarwal added that the company is looking to double down its focus on same-deliveries going ahead.
