AIIMS-Delhi To Come Up With Startup Policy To Promote Entrepreneurship Among Medical Students

SUMMARY

AIIMS-Delhi is planning to associate with IIT, IIM, and ISB to make intersectional learning more accessible to medical students

It will also be collaborating with companies to provide business management exposure to the medical students

For the purpose, AIIMS director Dr M Srinivas will be meeting representatives of other academic institutions on Sunday (February 26)

The administration of AIIMS-Delhi has reportedly planned to roll out a startup policy in a bid to promote entrepreneurship among medical students.

AIIMS-Delhi is planning to associate with other educational institutes such as the Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Management, and Indian School of Business (ISB) to make intersectional learning more accessible to medical students, officials told The Times of India (TOI).

Regarding this, AIIMS director Dr M Srinivas will be meeting representatives of other academic institutions on Sunday (February 26).

An official informed that AIIMS has initiated the startup policy mulling the changing times and requirements.

Besides this, the medical research university will also be collaborating with companies such as McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group and Bain & Company to provide business management exposure to the medical students.

On February 25th, ISB regional manager Ketan Tewari will carry out an informational session at AIIMS-Delhi, talking about the business management sector, its scope and opportunities. He will further inform students about business management programs that ISB offers.

According to an official, AIIMS-Delhi’s initiative would help medical students gain knowledge apart from the healthcare sector. Such initiative will further help such students in setting up their own venture for instance nursing homes etc after completion of medical studies.

“Apart from treatment, students should have basic knowledge of other fields like management and finances too. This will help them in their career growth,” a faculty member added.

The announcement has come at a time when India’s startup space has produced 108 unicorns coming from diverse sectors and regions.

Seeing this, the Centre along with the state government have come forward to support domestic startups by either revamping their startup policies or creating new ones altogether.

In 2022, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh had launched startup policies while states such as Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu revamped their respective schemes.

Apart from focusing on the startup ecosystem, the Centre and state governments also shifted their attention toward other emerging sectors including electric vehicles and drones, and consequently, rolled out funds such as PLI scheme and FAME-II policy to accelerate growth.
