Agri-biotech startup GreenGrahi has secured INR 32 Cr (around $3.7 Mn) in a seed funding round led by Avaana Capital.

The round also saw participation from existing investors, including Huddle Ventures, Campus Fund, Blume Founders Fund, along with a host of angel investors like Nitin Sharma of Nexus Ventures, Anchit Gupta from Samara Capital and others.

The startup plans to deploy the fresh proceeds to build India’s largest Black Soldier Fly (BSF) bio-factory, with a capacity to process 150 tonnes of feedstock daily.

Additionally, it also looks to strengthen its scientific team while also expanding its global footprint across US, UK and European Union.

Founded in 2021 by Shivali Sugand and Siddharth Sharma, GreenGrahi offers an insect biotech platform that is powered by BSF and microbiome. The startup produces insect proteins, functional oils, and hydrolysates that are essential for aquaculture, poultry, and pets.

The startup also claims to have built biological agri-inputs, including biofertilisers, biostimulants and biopesticides to improve soil health, boost crop resilience and yield and reduce the need for chemical fertilisers and pesticides.

The development comes at a time when the broader agritech sector has been gaining traction from investors across India and around the globe. These startups have secured more than $2.4 Bn since 2014, as per Inc42’s analysis.

Just like every other industry, the agritech sector is also seeing emergence of new players such as Eeki Foods, CropIn, BharatAgri, among others, with tech-based solutions to address challenges faced by farmers across the country.

Over a month ago, homegrown agritech platform Fasal’s fresh food distribution business was acquired by Swiss-Indian agritech platform Innoterra for an undisclosed amount, to boost Innoterra supply chain and expand its distribution footprint across the country.

Meanwhile, Fambo secured INR 21 Cr (around $2.4 Mn) in a seed funding round to scale its operations across India, establish an export vertical and invest in technology.
