With the much-anticipated sale of Apple's iPhone 16 starting today (September 20), quick commerce giants like BigBasket, Blinkit and Zepto are vying to capture a share of the electronics market
A day after Tata Digital-owned BigBasket announced 10-minute delivery of various electronic products, including the newly-launched iPhone 16, Blinkit joined the fray amid a rapid battle of supremacy in the quick commerce space, offering a rapid delivery of the device in key cities.
Blinkit launched the service in partnership with Unicorn Infosolutions Pvt. Ltd.
Taking to LinkedIn, Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa said that iPhone 16 is currently available for rapid delivery in cities, including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Lucknow, among others.
Unicorn Infosolutions is also offering discounts with select credit cards, along with EMI options, Dhindsa added.
On the same day, iPhone 16 was also available on Zepto for major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and the Delhi-NCR region.
With this, the quick commerce giant has also announced discount offerings worth INR 5,000 for eligible card holders from BOB Card, RBL Bank and AU Small Finance Bank who are looking to buy iPhone 16.
Zepto’s president Vinay Dhanani said, “With Zepto, we’re offering more than just speed this is about delivering premium tech right to your door in minutes, providing an unmatched shopping experience, especially in cities like Chennai and Hyderabad, where we may be the first to offer this service.”
Yesterday (September 19), BigBasket partnered with Croma to launch its fast delivery service for the iPhone 16.
With the much-anticipated sale of Apple’s iPhone 16 starting today (September 20), quick commerce giants like BigBasket, Blinkit and Zepto are vying to capture a share of the electronics market.
The expansion into electronics quick commerce also coincides with the booming electronic market in India. Besides, these players are expanding their electronics offerings to boost their average order value (AOV) and gross volumes.
Blinkit, in particular, led the quick commerce segment with an AOV of INR 625 for the quarter ending in June.
Notably, Blinkit’s gross order value (GOV) surged 130% to INR 4,923 Cr in Q1 FY25 from INR 2,140 Cr in the corresponding quarter last year. Sequentially, it rose 22.2% from INR 4,027 Cr in Q4 FY24.
Blinkit currently operates 639 dark stores across the country and its average daily GOV throughout per store has risen to INR 10 Lakh from 639 stores as compared to INR 6 Lakh from 383 stores earlier. It aims to scale the dark store’s number up to 2,000 by the end of 2026 while remaining profitable, said Albinder Dhindsa, cofounder and CEO of Blinkit.
This move also aligns with Zomato’s efforts to diversify its product offerings. Last month, Zomato began delivering passport-sized photos within 10 minutes in Delhi and Gurugram.
It is pertinent to note that Zomato continued its run on the profit lane in the first quarter of FY25, with its quick commerce vertical Blinkit leading the show once again.
While the gross order value (GOV) of Zomato’s three B2C business verticals (food delivery, quick commerce, and going out) grew 53% year-on-year (YoY) during the quarter under review, Blinkit’s GOV grew 130% YoY.
