Thee internet search engine, Google introduced a change in the way its search engine recommends websites on smartphones. The search engine will now recommend websites that are mobile friendly and mark them at top ranks based on the algorithm of meeting certain criteria.

According to this new mobile friendly test, Flipkart have turned out to be the not so friendly sites on mobile as the website. Whereas, JustDial and Zomato have grabbed a place to be identified as mobile friendly websites. Flipkart, however, is now directing to download an app while visiting its mobile site.

Experts have named Google’s new rating system as “Mobile-geddon” as this new formula won’t affect searches on desktop and laptop computers.

The new algorithm that is decided to find mobile friendly websites comes from the insight that there are more users logging onto the smartphones to compare products in stores and look for restaurants. According to Google, websites that do not meet the description criteria, will be demoted in Google search results on smartphones while those meeting the criteria will appear in top rankings.

The algorithm that will favor the websites to be mobile-friendly needs to consist of quick uploading and easy-to-click links, readable and accessible content, adjustable text size based on the screen they’re viewed, are a few criteria that needs to be met for a website to rank higher in being mobile friendly.

Google sees that about 60% of online traffic is now coming from mobile, which needs to be provided a good interface. Google says that the changes within the algorithm were announced two months back giving enough time to web developers to make the necessary amendments in their mobile sites.

Google believes that if businesses do not adhere to the need or surpasses the changes then they are sure to notice a drop of traffic in future. However, some mobile-unfriendly sites could still get favorable search placement as Google’s algorithm judges sites based on numerous criteria, of which mobile-friendliness is just one. The company’s aim is to provide the most relevant results, even if it’s to a site that isn’t optimized for mobile.
